Cebu bands Kiss Puppy and Cosmic Kid collaborated to release a split EP on October 29, 2021. The EP features two songs per band, which were previously released as exclusive singles for digital release.
The EP will serve as a way for artists to connect with their fans and listeners through physical formats such as tapes produced by the PAWN Records label and print shop.
The EP features singles like “Gum In My Pocket” by Kiss Puppy and “Maintaining Distance” by Cosmic Kid. These tracks were released as early as April 29, 2020 and premiered via a Spotify podcast/radio show dubbed “PAWNCast”.
The delay in the EP’s release is attributed to the pandemic, but both bands are thrilled that the project has finally been revealed.
“The idea of doing a split EP started around 2015 when we were playing gigs at HeadquarterZ, a now defunct bar that was known for hosting countless gigs and being one of the epicenters of the music scene in Cebu at the time I was inspired by some US based bands I was in that were putting out separate EPs as a way to get music out as fast as they could and touring to self spread awareness,” said Cosmic Kid vocalist and bassist Wes Bacareza.
“The experience was so unique. We barely meet because this is an independent collaboration between two bands,” shared Kiss Puppy vocalist Kersly Potter.
“Most of the songs we decided to release were written before the split was even planned. It was a quick recording process. I didn’t even expect this split to happen because of the pandemic, but we did it anyway.
The bands compared releasing the EP in physical format as their way of contributing to a local community in analog music consumption.
“I’m so happy to partner with a dedicated group like Cosmic Kid. We have similar aesthetic tastes and I’m so glad Wes is directing it all because I trust his old school art direction more. than mine,” Potter added.
“Really glad it’s now up and I can’t contain the excitement to have our EP on tape. Such a dream!” Follow Cosmic Kid and Kiss Puppy on their social media pages for their music, news and their updates.
